True Stars shining and sparkling with inspiration,2: Growing up Down's!
by Mother Sigrid Eliora
Ivan, James and John share with others, how life with cerebral palsy, Down's syndrome or epilepsy is. It is not easy and very precious, as their parents are most selflessly and lovingly trying all they can and foremost love them to bits. And little Ivan, James and John give their mum and dad and siblings surprises and challenges and unconditional love without limits.
Ivan, James and John think that there is so much more adults can do to nurture and develop the talents and skills and gifts of children, teenagers and young adults f.ex. with Down's syndrome.
In addition to the occupational and creative and multi-disciplinary therapies and approaches and whatnot complicated words that we cannot even speak out but which have an effect on our lives, in terms of receiving teaching and training that also gives us more self-confidence, hope and the feeling of purpose by doing something for others and also let our imagination play and to help each other reach beyond our dreams into making them reality.
We, Ivan, James and John see ourselves already as producer, director and actor of whole homeschool shows, which we perform and stage with other children in schools all over the world! Our disability is only in certain areas but we have a strength and discipline and many spiritual gifts that so-called healthy people seem to have often lost. When they look at us with that strange pitying or disgusted look, then it is actually them, who are in fear of their own shortcomings and that their perfect lives could from one moment to the other be disrupted by tragedy.
We are, who we are, and we simply take every day at a time and enjoy our parent's love and selfless deeds and, of course, we drive them mad, too, but we do not really annoy them, as we are not intentfully bad!
But we have also a lot of abilities and gifts still undiscovered and slumbering in us waiting to grab an opportunity to show and develop them to help others, too, to come out of their shell! And, to be honest, it is also nice for our mums and dads to see us have friends and being smiled at for a change and even applauded!
So, we have therefore in our little home school also special and additional speech, movement, music arts, play and drama therapy and we love to dance and to sing or hum and we love to bang also the drum! And we hope that all over the world families get help from volunteer therapists, who just give their time unbureaucratically and selflessly to a family, so that yet another disabled child gets yet another opportunity to be a member also of a wider caring community.
If every health professional in retirement or voluntarily gave an hour or two for a free session for therapy regularly for a family or community at their home or by a for free provided spare room facility in the community, imagine, how many more woukd blossom increasingly!
Go on, talk and offer your help, and those, who are in need of more help that they cannot afford, talk about it with other families and see, whom you could ask for help! As you will be surprised, how many unemployed or retired professionals are keen to help but were reluctant because of imaginary obstacles. Trust in God to provide the right way but the first step must come from you, as all must take responsibility and not just rely on others and thus can flourish quickly a whole community!
Let us know, how you get along!
